5 Minute Marketing Tips #15 – Mistakes Companies Make When Marketing

Welcome to Hivelead’s 5 Minute Marketing Tips. And we are still inside of a series where we are talking about major mistakes that companies make when they are doing marketing. And a lot of companies are ready to pay for different kinds of marketing, but unfortunately, there are things that they need to resolve before doing it. And so maybe they pay for Google Ads, or they pay for YouTube ads, or they pay for Facebook ads, but they’ve got problems that they need to fix. And so we’re talking about these big problems.

Last few, we talked about the offer that you’re making. We talked about a CRM. We talked about your reputation, and today we’re going to talk about the website. Okay, so why is a website important? Having a professional-looking well-designed website is important because it’s your storefront. So let’s just take a look here. Let’s say that these are coffee shops and you’re looking to go and meet with someone or work. Which one of these coffee shops that you’re looking at, that you’ve never been to, are you more likely to want to enter into?

Well, I think for me that would be the right one. And probably for most of you. If you’ll look at the left one, it looks rather frightening. It looks scary. Now, maybe they have the best coffee in the world, and they have the best pastries, and it looks like a hole in the wall, but it’s really good. But the impression that it gives is not good. And so if this company on the left, let’s say they had a good product and a good service, looked like the one on the right, they would probably have a lot more customers, even if they do have something that is good. And the one on the right might get customers, just because of the way it looks, even though it doesn’t have that good of coffee.

So your appearance online is incredibly important. Your storefront is incredibly important. Digitally the way that we connect with people is through their website. People are going to go, they’re going to look at your reputation before doing business with you, and they’re going to go, obviously, and look at your website. So if it stinks, well, you’ve got a problem. You need to make yourself look a lot better.

I’m not trying to pick on this guy. I just Googled plumber. I went down at the bottom pages of Google, and I found this Larry Stinson’s Plumbing. If you’re seeing this, Larry, I’m sorry. You know, I’m not trying to bash your business. Probably, you have a great plumbing team there. It looks like to me, it is. But this page is a really bad landing page. It’s a really bad website. It does not look professional. It does not look up to date, looks like it’s about 20 years old, and it’s just a very homemade kind of page. And at least it does have a phone number up here, but it has a lot of irrelevant text. It’s just not modern. I mean, anybody looking at this can tell this is not a modern website.

So one of the things that businesses, the first things they need to tackle is to have a professional-looking website. There’s a whole series on landing pages that we created that’s on YouTube, and you can jump on YouTube and watch. And the same kind of principles that are for landing pages you can apply to your website. You know you want to have your number in the top right-hand corner. You want to have a Fibonacci sequence and maybe some video upfront. You want to have a call to action that’s front and center, and so forth, and so on, and benefits, and ad copy, and features, and those different things.

I’m not going to go into all those details because we already did a video about that recently. But you need to work on your website. And a lot of companies, they really, really need to fix their website. I can do SEO on that website, and my team can do SEO on that website, but if the website, when people come on it, they don’t know what to do, and it doesn’t look professional, and there’s no reputation, and your reputation management is bad. Guess what? You can send all the traffic in the world to that site, and it’s not going to convert. It’s not going to do anything.

So if you need to get your website rebuilt, do it. It’s a one-time investment that will be worth it for you, and so look very closely at that. All right, so this is 5 Minute Marketing Tips.
